Eileen Olson is an abstract expressionist painter and workshop instructor. Born in Brooklyn, NY. Eileen studied at the Brooklyn Museum School of Art and the Corcoran School of Art. She is co-owner of Gallery One in Ocean View, DE. and former co-owner/executive director of Spectrum Gallery in Washington, D.C. Always pushing the envelope, Olson’s strengths are in color and form, with the ability to distill the essence of nature into her paintings. Her creations are characterized by brave applications of color in both painterly and geometric compositions in pastel, oils and water media. She has a sensitive and personal style of painting while expressing her emotions in an imaginative and beautiful way.
For more than two decades, Eileen constantly seeks to modify her approach, resisting the comfort of tendency and maintaining the freshness of an unchartered territory. A few years back, Eileen spent a month in an artist-in-residency in Dinan, France, followed by an exhibition of her work at La Grande Vigne. One of her paintings was selected by the board members of Les Amis de la Grande Vigne to be placed in the town’s permanent collection.
Olson currently resides in Bethany Beach, DE. She’s a member of the Rehoboth Art League and Art League of Ocean City, Ocean City, MD.Eileen practiced critical care nursing for over 30 years as an R.N., then switched careers to a full time artist. She has exhibited in NYC and Wash, DC. Her work can be found in both private and corporate collections in the US and abroad.
"The exploration of the relationship between man and nature is the soul of my art. I begin my search with a great sense of adventure and curiosity. My subject matter is not always known to me until I put my pigments to paper, building with eclectic materials and water soluble pigments into a design form that I find exciting. I consider myself a constructivist, employing a nonrepresentational style of art to combine my subject into abstract forms through a series of catastrophes. I think this creative approach helps to express my deep emotions.”
